Andi Bruce

Hi, I’m Andi.

I am a professional mycologist, avid wild food forager, and amateur rockhound with a green thumb and a love affair with the natural world.  I have a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies with a focus on environmental sustainability and social justice.  I have a master’s degree in biology with a focus on mycology, the study of mushrooms and other fungi.

My master’s thesis dealt with understanding the origin and spread of naturalized golden oyster mushrooms in the United States.  Have you found golden oysters in your area?  Read on.

After spending 4 years in biotech developing techniques for growing fungi aerially to be applied as a mycelium-based leather alternative, the Wisconsin woods have called me home. My current focus is on the transfer of cultural knowledge and traditional skills, primarily through the Driftless Folk School, for the development of more resilient and sustainable communities in sync with nature’s cycles.
